Still in Summer Denial? 5 Trends to Ease You Into Autumn
As a self-proclaimed beach girl (my seashell and dolphin tattoos speak for themselves), I’m still resisting the idea that summer is slipping away. But if there’s one thing that helps me let go of those long, golden evenings, it’s the thought of autumn fashion.
That said, I’m not ready to abandon sundresses and sandals just yet — a full autumn lookbook feels a little premature. Instead, I thought I’d share five trends I’m certain we’ll be seeing everywhere over the next few months — pieces that work beautifully as summer-to-autumn transition staples.
1. Jewellery Stacks That Last
I know, jewellery might not sound groundbreaking, but this summer has been all about layered, chunky stacks — and I am obsessed. Nothing takes a plain outfit from zero to ten faster than the right mix of chains, hoops, and bangles.
Here’s the catch: as a mostly-gold jewellery girl, nothing annoys me more than tarnishing. Solid gold isn’t in my budget (if only!), so finding affordable, waterproof pieces has been a game-changer. Three brands I swear by:
Accessorize – my tried-and-true favourite. Their waterproof range has held up beautifully all summer, and not a hint of tarnish.
Cainté – a Copenhagen-based brand with a luxe look at mid-range prices. Keep an eye out for their sales; they’re generous.
Molly Olivia – London-based, with gorgeous hammered gold pieces perfect for layering, many under £100
2. Scarves, But Smarter
The silk scarf trend owned Instagram this summer — styled as belts, tops, hairbands, you name it. I especially loved the paisley styles that instantly dressed up a simple look. While silk might not stand up to the cold British winter, I’ve found some great alternatives:
Free People – soft, bandana-style scarves that work as both accessory and extra warmth.
Kujten – indulgent cashmere paisley scarves. Pricey, yes, but they’re heirloom-quality (and I’ve spotted a few bargains on Depop and Vinted).
H&M- The perfect Kujten dupe! Whilst they might not keep you as warm in the winter months, for £12.99 you really can’t complain!
Scarves aren’t just transitional accessories — they’re also little pieces of personality you can wear in endless ways.
3. Studs & Fringe, The Grown-Up Way
This summer brought back fringe and studs, with a nod to early 2010s grunge — but done in a sleeker, more elevated way. Personally, I think these pieces shine brightest when found second-hand.
On Vinted and Depop, the secret is being specific. When I found my dream brown suede studded calf-length boots, I filtered by size, condition, budget, and even brand to cut out all the fast-fashion noise. It takes more effort, but the results are worth it.
That said, the high street is catching up too — I’ve spotted incredible peices that nail the vibe without the hunt:
4. Khaki Everything
I have a feeling khaki is going to dominate this autumn — and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. From jeans to blouses to jackets, that rich “army green” shade is the perfect blend of cool and practical.
A few pieces I’m currently obsessed with:
Khaki jeans from Arket and Align (on sale — do I take the plunge?).
Blouses in khaki paired with blue denim — Mango has one I love, and Ba&sh has a luxe version for high-end shoppers.
Khaki jackets – I’ve been devoted since age 11 (photo evidence exists). My latest find? A Zadig & Voltaire studded jacket on Vinted for under £40 after months of searching. I’ve recently discovered we can merge style and practicality and this M&S waterproof cape has been my absolute go-to.
5. The High-Neck Wool Coat
If last year hinted at it, this year confirms it: the high-neck wool coat will be the coat of the season. Honestly, I doubt we’ll see a single coat without a chic high neckline.
Why it works:
It’s functional — keeping out the wind without needing a scarf.
It’s flattering — elongating the neck and giving that clean, minimalist silhouette.
It’s timeless — it feels modern now, but it’s a piece you’ll keep for years.
Look out for camel, black, and (of course) khaki versions hitting the high street and higher-end boutiques alike. This isn’t just a trend — it’s a wardrobe upgrade. Here are some of my faves I found:
So there you have it — five transitional trends to help us summer girls reluctantly ease into autumn. Not quite pumpkin spice-ready, but definitely prepared for layered jewellery, khaki staples, and a high-neck wool coat moment.
